The Demons looked good but that lasted a short time. After holding to Peach County to three-and-out to start the game they took over on their own 23 and moved up the field. Calvin Franklin-Moore took the first two handoffs. The first he carried for five yards. The second he took well inside Trojan territory. With a facemask tacked on, Warner Robins was sitting pretty at the Peach County 39.
Things went sour from there – and that could pretty much be said about the rest of the night. Jalen Rountree was knocked down in the backfield for a loss of six. A fumble on the snap took away two more - but at least it was recovered by Demons quarterback Jamaine Collins who fell on it. Rountree then netted a big gain down the right side but it was called back for a hold. Just like that the Demons were faced with a third and 25. Franklin-Moore ran for a yard on the next play resulting in a punt on the next.
Peach County took over on its 20. A nice block on the first play from scrimmage around the right end sprung Renard Williams for a run all the way to Warner Robins’ 15. Two plays netted a first down and two more saw Travis Richmond run around end for the score from four yards out. The PAT was wide left.
The Demons went three-and-out on their next possession and punted. The Trojans ran it up to their own 46 to start. They were eventually faced with the decision as to whether or not to go for it on a fourth-and-three on the Warner Robins 35. There was some activity on the sidelines giving the appearance they might, but in the end they punted.
It worked out well for them.
The game into the second quarter by then, they were able to pin the Demons on the 6 and a couple of plays into it, were able to score a safety.
Warner Robins did move the ball well on its next possession – starting on its on 20 and moving inside Peach County territory before eventually having to punt. (It also converted a fourth-and-one along the way.)
The punt was into the endzone. The ball was brought out to the 20 where the Trojans then moved up the field. They again moved it in Demons territory. When the drive stalled they tried a field goal. It missed but a roughing the kicker penalty gave them new life. They made three unsuccessful attempts at the endzone before again trying a field goal. This one was from 28 yards out and was good via the foot of Shaun Kelly.
That made it 17-0, which is where it stood nine seconds later when the horn sounded for the half.
Both teams jockeyed a bit in the second half. Warner Robins had also been plagued with bad field position throughout the first half. That changed some when Peach County fumbled late in the third. Warner Robins ended up with it on their own 44. It was forced to punt but then held the Trojans and forced them to do likewise. That in turn again gave them good field position, this time starting at the 43. Again they were unable to move the ball with any consistency, however.
Kelly for Peach County eventually got another opportunity to score with about nine minutes left in the game and made good on it. He kicked his second field goal, a 35 yarder, to complete the scoring.
Elsewhere, Hunter Heck kicked a 23-yard field goal with less than 30 seconds remaining to lift Houston County past Perry 10-9. The game was a battle throughout with the Bears scoring first and the Panthers answering quickly thereafter. Perry, however, missed the PAT.
Luke Lineberger eventually kicked a short field goal to put the Panthers up 9-7. That stood for the longest time – both defenses stiffened just as it appeared the other team had gained the momentum – until a handful of Bears blocked Perry’s punt with 1:47 left to play.
Houston County took it at the 9 and ran a few plays off the clock before spiking it and bringing on Heck.
Also, Northside was reported to be a 38-0 winner over Union Grove in a game shortened due to bad weather.
