Double-charged shoppers at Army and Air Force exchange stores who suffered overdraft fees -- including customers at Robins Air Force Base -- are being asked to bring their documentation to the nearest exchange for a full refund.
Army and Air Force Exchange Service officials announced last week that a processing error may have resulted in duplicate charges on credit and debit cards for transactions during the Aug. 7 to Aug. 9 timeframe. The error affected exchanges worldwide, said AAFES officials, including online sales.
"We promised to do the right thing for our customers affected by this unfortunate glitch and we are honoring that promise," said AAFES Senior Enlisted Advisor Chief Jeffry Helm in a Friday press release. "We regret any inconvenience this may have caused and want to reimburse them as quickly as possible."
Shoppers who experienced overdraft fees should bring documentation such as an overdraft notice or an online statement to their exchange customer service office.
Exchange officials say that corrective action to the actual double charges should be showing up in customer accounts at least within the next two weeks.
