ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE - Maj. Jeffrey Allen Martin, 41, a member of the 116th Air Control Wing at Robins Air Force Base, was killed Sunday night after losing control of his motorcycle on Sandefur Road. The accident occurred about 6:30 p.m.
Martin's commander within the 116th Operations Support Squadron, Lt. Col. Greg McCreary, called the 21-year Air Force veteran an integral part of the unit's team and family.
"No day will pass without us yearning for his warm smile and 'can-do' attitude," McCreary is quoted in a 116th ACW response to query. "He was an outstanding officer who exemplified the Air Force core values of 'integrity, service before self and excellence in all we do.' The 116th ACW and the Air Force have lost a fine officer who will be missed dearly."
Martin was an air battle manager and the assistant chief for operations group continuation training. He served as an enlisted airmen before gaining his commission through Officer Training School in January of 2000. He was promoted to major in September of last year.
Martin, who lived in Kathleen, had earned numerous awards and decorations during his career including three Air Medals, an Aerial Achievement Medal and two Air Force Commendation Medals.
