A national disgrace

Editor:

During the Bush Administration's nomination of Harriet Myers as a Supreme Court Justice, Barack Obama, a mere radical senator from notoriously corrupt Chicago-land, was adamantly opposed to her nomination based on his belief that it was imperative for a Supreme Court Justice to have actively served as a judge. Well the shoe is on the other foot now and what does he do? He nominates a radical socialistic activist with no judicial experience for the current vacancy; one who will definitely base her judgments on International and Sharia Laws in lieu of established principles set forth in our Constitution.

Elena Kagan will most assuredly play an activist role on the Court by being inordinately prejudicial, as opposed to making fair and impartial decisions under correct jurisprudence, and she will be covertly sympathetic toward minorities and illegal immigrants. Obama's duplicitous actions are akin to his trying to put a radical Muslim on the Court who will adhere to his, Obama's, basic purpose to destroy the very fabric of our judicial system and our system of justice.

Our overall justice system is a joke as it is under the direction of the current administration's Attorney General and liberal district court judges. Cases in point being the suspension of charges against the Black Panthers for polling place violations (threats), subversion of the military court system by failure to testify or release documents that would clear a military officer who is contesting the legitimacy of orders from an illegitimate Commander-in-Chief, and suing of Arizona for taking action against illegal immigration where the Federal Government (Obama and the Attorney General) refuses to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

This administration with all its radical appointees will be recorded by rational historians as the most inept, corrupt, and disgraceful in American history.

Hughes endorsement

Editor:

I enthusiastically support the election of Helen Hughes to the Houston County Board of Education, Post #5. She is superbly qualified to continue serving on the board. Having a wealth of knowledge and experience as an educator and as a volunteer (for over 20 years) and having a great deal of initiative, determination and vision provide her with a keen insight concerning the educational needs of our children and how best to satisfy these needs. She gained her in depth knowledge of the Houston School System not only as an educator, as a parent and as a school volunteer but also by having studied and visited each school in connection with a SPLOST and working tirelessly for its approval by the voters.

Helen Hughes has no motive for election to this position other than to do everything she can to make sure the Houston County School System continues to pursue excellence in education in meeting the needs of all students. She is firm in her convictions and leaves no doubt as to where she stands. I know of no one who has a greater concern for or a more keen interest in the Houston County School System. Her love for students is unequaled and has been demonstrated through the countless volunteer hours she has contributed to the school system – all in pursuit of a quality education for all.

The Board of Education needs the dedication and leadership that places children first. Helen Hughes is such an individual who is also most capable, enthusiastic and who will make sure the Houston County School System strives for even greater achievements. She is highly intelligent and possesses an impeccable character. I strongly urge your support of Helen Hughes for election to the Board of Education.

Fewer restrictions not the answer

Editor:

The US Supreme Court's recent decision to expand the Second Amendment's interpretation for all citizens to be able to bear arms but restricted by reasonable local, state and city restrictions will have little affect in Georgia. We already have the most permissive gun laws of almost any state. Yet our state's number one growth industry is prisons.

Firearms in our nation cause 60,000 injuries and deaths annually. The Chicago handgun ban has actually prevented many violent deaths since its inception in 1983. What is needed is more gun safety by rigid background checks and closing gun show loopholes. Our local news reports on the shooting gallery-like atmosphere in Macon are routine and never ending. More guns don't make us safer as we have 175 million now.

Local tax notices are in the mail.

Sit down before you open yours!

As expected with the failing economy, tax revenues are decreasing.

Not a problem for local pols... just raise the tax rates to make up the shortfall

... and Wow! did they ever!
