The playoff schedule for the girls for Tuesday was as follows: Warner Robins was at Mossy Creek, Bonaire was at Huntington and Perry was at Thomson. The match between Feagin Mill and Northside, according to the Board of Education, took place at Perry Middle due to a shortage of officials.
For the boys, Thomson was at Perry, Bonaire was at Huntington and Northside was at Mossy Creek. The game between Warner Robins and Feagin Mill was moved to Thomson.
As far as games played Friday, Perry Middle beat Feagin Mill 1-0 to finish the regular season 10-0. J.W. Gentry with assists from Drew Barker and Daniel Ward scored the only goal.
“Dylan Griger and Yohannes Hollis both came back from their injuries and provided some exceptional midfielding and defense,” said Perry Coach Mike Paalz. “Keeper Thomas Mullis also saved our butts from more than a few ‘near-goals’ by the Wolves.
“Coach Pinto has really whipped those boys into shape since our last match,” he added. “Feagin Mill wanted a win against us badly, but we wanted a perfect season record more.”
In addition to Gentry, Barker, Ward, Griger and Hollis, other Perry club members include: Justin Flowers, Jackson Reid, Bryce Struckmeyer, Bo Sichelstiel, Gehrig Broxton, Kenny Menefee, Grady Saunders, Jason Resetar, Jacob LeVally, Colton Armistead, Thomas Mullis, Bonner Brooks and Ryan LeVally.
In some of the other action from Friday:
Warner Robins boys 3, Northside 0
“Our best game yet.” So said Warner Robins Coach Matthew Shultz of the Warriors’ win. The score he said was 1-0 at the half, that coming via Cody Dees’ penalty kick in the 12th minute.
“The second half we came out strong,” Shultz said, with Felix Dominguez scoring on a cross from Toby Cranfors and then in the 20th minute, Reggie Gordon finding the back of the net on a loose ball rolling around in the box.
“Our entire team stood-out this past game because we never gave up and played the full game,” Shultz said. “We have finally realized what a team sport is, and it is showing.”
Said Northside Coach Stephen Beaty: “After that (penalty kick) my defense shut down although Matt Preston stuck it out to help our goalie, Jalen Rutledge. When the defense could send the ball up field and my midfielders dropped back to help the defense send it up, we accomplished some breaks on the goal.”
Demetrius Knight, Ryan Miner, Josh Robinson, Thomas Ficklin, Jurmon Weaver, Sergio Alcantar, Trent Deighan and Tre Scott, he said, all transitioned from midfielders to forwards to attack the Warriors’ goal but would just come up short on the shots.”
The Jets, Beaty added, were missing Connor LaBarge, one of their key players, he said, due to illness.
“I was proud of my boys who tried to give it their all while the others who didn’t have their heart in it affected the whole team. It was definitely a lesson in teamwork and going above oneself and thinking about others.”
Northside ended up in a tie with Warner Robins so flipped a coin for seeding. They came out on the short end, hence their game with Mossy Creek.
Northside girls 4, Warner Robins 0
Dee Dee Mitchell scored three goals to lead the Lady Jets while Lauren Sutton contributed the other. Northside Coach Leslie Williams singled out all Jessie Dickens, Brittany Fiveash, Peyton Raley, Nalehya Singleton, Mashawn Rumph and Emily Schuler for their outstanding contributions on defense.
“Overall, our defense did a great job of getting the ball to the forwards,” she said. “We were able to keep the ball on our offensive side most of the time.”
Mossy Creek girls 3, Bonaire 1
Praise to Rachel Wood, who Lady Gators Coach Amy Gautney said came off the bench to “ignite” the Mossy Creek offense with the first goal – and tie the game at 1. Khayla Owens then took her lead and scored the second goal leaving the score 2-1 at the half. Owens also scored the insurance goal in the second half.
Huntington girls 2, Thomson 0
Alana Wooten provide the first goal for the Lady Hawks and Rebecca Dukes the second.
Brittany Brooks in the keeper spot helped preserve the shutout.
