A basketball game pitting Lake Joy Elementary against Quail Run Elementary is set of 6 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Feagin Mill Middle School gymnasium.
Each school’s chorus will perform the National Anthem, and they will perform again after the first quarter. During halftime 60 students will have the opportunity to enter a “Gotcha” tournament for $5. The “Leapin’ Lions” jump rope team will perform after the third quarter, along with Lake Joy’s cheerleading squad.
Cost is $3 for adults, $2 for children, and all proceeds will benefit Relay for Life.

VHS band director named
The Houston County Board of Education last week named Thomas Brown from Jeff Davis High School in Hazelhurst as the new band director at Veterans High School.
Brown, who’s been at Jeff Davis High since 1993, has 31 years experience in schools in Florida, Alabama and Georgia, and has judged marching bands and concert bands throughout the Southeast. He was the Jeff Davis County Teacher of the Year in 2007, and in 2008 was the Georgia Music Educators Association Music Educator of the Year.
Advanced Placement information presented
Houston County High School will host an Advanced Placement (AP) informational session 6:30 p.m. Feb. 23 in the school cafeteria. Parents will have the opportunity to learn about anticipated AP offerings, prerequisites and course requirements.
