The middle schools marked their third soccer outing Wednesday. For Perry’s boys that translated into their third straight win. The Panthers traveled to Warner Robins and beat the Warriors 3-1, Colton Armistead, Bo Sichelstiel and Daniel Ward accounted for the Perry goals. Ethan Alonzo scored for Warner Robins. Warriors Head Coach Matthew Shultz said it came in the 24th minute when Ethan Alonzo crossed the ball in the middle of the field and Cody Dees, who was playing his first game after back surgery, played a one-touch shot into the back of the net.

“Hey, they can’t all be shutouts,” said Perry Head Coach Mike Paalz, who also singled out the midfielding of Dylan Griger and the “exceptional” multi-position play of Ryan LeVally. “But a win is still a win,” Paalz said.

“Warner Robins has improved tremendously since last year,” he said, “especially on defense.”

Added Shultz: “On defense our keeper Rawquon Eppers did another fantastic job along with our three defensive players but outstanding play on defense goes to Nick Roberts who marked Perry’s best player the whole game and did not let him score.

“Nick did a great job of marking him up and not allowing him to get to the ball.

The squad is getting better each game. We hope to be in top form when we start to play the other North Division opponents (Feb. 10).”

Perry’s girls also won, beating Warner Robins 5-1. Shelby King scored four of those goals – the first of those coming two minutes into the game - while Dianna Sanchez netted one. The Lady Panthers led 3-1 at the half.

Defensively, Head Coach Rachel Horton said they were led by Alexis Ard in the goal and Kaley Sikes and Tori Tucker on the field.

“The girls played hard and their hustle allowed them to win the ball game,” Horton said.

Added Warner Robins Head Coach Kimessia Hughes: “It was not a good day for the girls,” she said. “We struggled the entire game, but we did score in the first half. Kelcey Kohout. Erin Phillips showed some great ball handling skills and Jasmin Hamlin was explosive on defense.

“We are growing as a team with players learning different positions and executing those roles with grace.”

Brian Yeager scored in the first half and Jacob Jamerson scored the second goal on a header off of a corner kick, said Hawks Head Coach Kirk Watson, adding it was a: “Really cool play! We played sort of sloppy at times,” he added, “but well enough to win. They were a good team and it was a hard fought match.”

Johnathan Poblette, he added, played very well on defense at the sweeper position. “The offense really worked well together and there were no real standouts,” he said.
