The movie, which is shown daily in the museum’s D-Day exhibit, was a joint collaboration between Inertia Films, Salute America Inc., and the Museum of Aviation. The film tells the story of the Normandy invasion through the eyes of two French girls who were children in the village of Graignes during World War II. The movie was shot entirely on location in Normandy and originally aired on Georgia Public Broadcasting in November 2008 and repeated in May 2009. Museum of Aviation staff members Melissa Spalding, Director of Education and Marilyn Ashmore, Capital Campaign Director served as Associate Producers for the film. “It was a great experience to be involved with this film” said Spalding. “This is not just a movie, but a teaching tool which will help educate children and visitors for years to come”.
The Museum of Aviation opened the D-Day exhibit in October 2008. It highlights the experiences of the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, the 61st and 442nd Troop Carrier Groups that ferried them to Normandy and the 325th Glider Regiment that fought alongside them. The total exhibit size is more than 6,000 square feet of floor space in the World War II Exhibit Hangar, and includes the Cauquigny Church/Capt. Robert D. Rae Theatre where visitors may enjoy presentations including the movie, Papa Said, We Should Never Forget.
