WARNER ROBINS – Patricia Walker, wife of the late Donald Walker, has endorsed mayoral candidate Chuck Chalk.

In a telephone interview Monday, Walker said she thought it was necessary to let Donald Walker’s supporters know how important is their vote.

“As the time approaches, I am concerned,” she said. “I have seen how the campaign is unfolding in the media, and I am endorsing Chuck Chalk.”

Chalk is running for mayor, “not running against Donald like the other two candidates,” she said, adding that she’s talked with many of Walker’s supporters.

She said Chalk is a very suitable man for the job, and her endorsement is more “about the person.”

The question of experience is a non-issue, she continued, noting that Walker did not have any experience running a city when he first took office in 1994, “and I think he did a very fine job.”

Chalk has the desire to lead and a love of the city, like Walker, she said.

“It’s not about being the mayor, it’s about being a public servant,” she said. “Donald always liked to say he was more a public servant than a mayor. Chuck Chalk has got the desire and the heart to do the same.”

Chalk, 42, a 20-year Air Force veteran, is running against pharmaceutical sales representative Chuck Shaheen and current City Council member Clifford Holmes. Donald Walker, who was running for re-election, died Sept. 28.

Election Day is Nov. 3. Should a run-off election be necessary, it will take place Dec. 1.
