A Warner Robins man was sentenced Friday in Houston Superior Court to 90 days in the detention center after being found guilty of vehicular homicide during a one-day trial.

Michael Jermain Henry, 30, of 155 Elaine Drive, was sentenced by Judge George F. Nunn for an incident that happened March 29, 2008, when his Toyota Camry was struck by a taxicab at 1501 Watson Blvd.

A passenger in Henry’s vehicle, Donoris Walker of Warner Robins, was killed from the impact, according to a news release from the Houston County district attorney’s office.

Warner Robins Police at the scene determined Henry was driving while impaired and charged him.

At Henry’s trial Thursday, the court saw the video of field sobriety tests and heard evidence he had a previous DUI conviction in Centerville.

Henry testified in his own defense, telling the court he did not feel impaired and only had three beers during three and one-half hours at a club. He added he was traveling from the club when the accident occurred. The victim’s mother testified on Henry’s behalf, the news release stated.

Nunn also sentenced Henry to 10 years of probation and allowed him to be treated as a first offender.

Henry was prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Jason Ashford and was represented by Public Defender Nick White.

Ashford said he sought a stiffer sentence, but “we respect the judge's determination” the sentence is sufficient.

“We can only hope that Mr. Henry takes advantage of his sentence and makes his life count for the life he wrongfully took,” Ashford continued. “He will now have to face the fact that his actions resulted in the death of his close friend.”
