Qualifying for this year’s city elections opened Monday in Warner Robins and Centerville.
As of late Tuesday morning, incumbent Mayor Donald Walker of Warner Robins had qualified for his re-election bid and paid the $3,090 fee, according to the city clerk’s office.
Other candidates filing their papers were Post 1 city council candidates Linda Carnes and Mike Daley. John Havrilla currently holds the seat.
Post 3 candidates Dean Cowart, a former city councilman, and Paul Shealy have qualified for the seat currently held by Terry Horton, who announced he would not seek re-election. The qualifying fee for council is $252.
No candidates had yet filed for the Post 5 seat, now occupied by Clifford Holmes Jr.
Qualifying in Warner Robins runs through 4:30 p.m. Friday.
In Centerville, four candidates filed their papers Monday for the city’s November election, according to City Clerk Krista Bedingfield.
Incumbent Mayor Harold “Bubba” Edwards filed for re-election, as did his opponent, former city administrator John Harley. The two faced off in 2005 after former Mayor Ronnie Brand decided to step down. The qualifying fee is $144.
Current City Council members Cameron Andrews of Post 1 and Randall Wright of Post 2 also filed for re-election and paid their $72 fee.
This will be Harley’s third attempt to hold elected office in Centerville. In addition to the 2005 failed bid for mayor, he fell short in 2007 for the Post 3 city council seat currently held by Edward Tucker. Then-incumbent Sherod Smith chose not to run for re-election.
Qualifying in Centerville ends at 4:30 p.m. today.
Warner Robins and Centerville elections are scheduled to take place Nov. 3, and voter registration ends Oct. 5. Should run-off elections be necessary, they will take place Dec. 1.
