Perry High brings home the silver

Perry High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) team took home the silver medal at the group’s National Leadership Conference this summer in Nashville, Tenn.

Students Blake Ford, Kelsey Culberson, Kylee Gallavan, Eliza Bauer, Caroline Grimes, Alex Driver, Amanda Svoboda and Brittany Tackett, who represented Georgia at the event, earned the medal in the parliamentary procedures competition. They competed against 24 other teams.

FCCLA adviser Kama Beaumarchais said, “Perry High FCCLA made history, as this is the first time we advanced to this level. Attending this conference was a great experience for all.”

School councils to meet, hold elections

Several schools in Houston County have announced school council meetings and elections for this academic year.

Warner Robins Middle School will hold a school council election 6:30 p.m. Sept. 1 in the school’s lunchroom. A parent and parent/business member will be elected, for one- and two-year terms respectively.

Huntington Middle School has announced its schedule of school council meetings for the 2009-10 school year. All meetings are to take place 7 a.m. in the office conference room. Meetings are scheduled for Sept. 1, Dec. 1, Feb. 2 and May 4.

Houston County High School will hold a school council election 6 p.m. Sept. 8 in the school’s media center. A parent representative will be elected to fill an unexpired one-year term. A school council meeting will immediately follow the election.

Centerville Elementary School has announced its schedule of school council meetings for the current academic year. All meetings are to take place 7:30 a.m. in the principal’s office. Meetings are scheduled for Sept. 15, Dec. 8, Feb. 9 and May 11.

Hilltop Elementary School has announced its schedule of its school council meetings for the remainder of this academic year. Meetings are to take place 6 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria. Meetings are scheduled for Oct. 6, Jan. 12 and April 13.
