WARNER ROBINS – Under a clear and muggy sky, Warner Robins resident Chuck Chalk today announced his bid for mayor.

Chalk cited his 22-year military experience, emphasizing his leadership roles and training.

“I have a great love for Warner Robins and want to lead a great city to greater heights,” Chalk said to the 12 to 15 family members and friends gathered at the fountain in front of City Hall.

Chalk said his decision to run did not necessarily mean he was not pleased with how the city has been faring under current Mayor Donald Walker.

“We had no options four years ago, and I think that’s a shame in a democracy,” he said. “We have four options now.”

While admitting he had no experience in civic government “other than interest, watching and reading,” Chalk said what he offered was a “new vision” for the city.

“There is always renewed energy when there is a change in leadership,” he said.

Chalk has been living in Warner Robins for the past 10 years, and said he recently retired from the Air Force.

He is the fourth person to express an interest in the mayoral position. Walker has said he plans to run for re-election. City council member Clifford Holmes Jr. and local businessman Chuck Shaheen announced last month they would seek the seat.

The period for candidates to file paperwork is from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.
