Veterans scored two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to rally past Howard Monday. The Warhawks won 5-4.

After two scoreless innings, Veterans put a run on the board in the top of the third. That was answered with a three-spot in the bottom of the inning.

Two more scoreless innings followed before the Warhawks tied it at three in the sixth. Howard went back out front with its last run of the night in the bottom of the inning. Veterans then pushed the aforementioned two across and kept the Huskies off the board in the bottom of the inning for the win.

It out-hit the host 8-6. Zach Wilkes, Mickey Dugan, Blake Jackson, Ben Williams, Micah Wells, Zach Johnson, Dylan Pierce and Kyle King accounted for each of the hits by the Warhawks.

Of those, Dugan scored a run. Williams did likewise and also drove one in. Jackson had an RBI as did Johnson.

Defensively, Dylan Spires worked six innings for the win. He gave up six hits, all four runs, walked two and struck out two. R.J. Skeen preserved the win with a perfect seventh.

Veterans improved to 3-0 in Region 2-AAA and 4-4 overall. Howard fell to 2-1, 6-4.

Elsewhere, Perry also won. It edged Baldwin 5-3.

The host Braves scored two in the first and their last in the sixth. The Panthers pushed one across in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth and sixth. They out-hit Baldwin 11-7. Dillon Hendrix, Nathan Murphy and Ryan Chaney each had two of those. Hendrix was 2-4 with an RBI. Murphy was 2-2 with a walk and a run scored and Chaney was 2-4 with two RBI. Joe Rucker was only 1-3 but that was a homerun.

Myles Sowell pitched a complete game for the Panthers. He didn’t walk a hitter and fanned five.

Perry improved to 2-1 in Region 2-AAA, 3-5 overall. Baldwin fell to 1-2, 1-6.
