Mercer Athletic Director Jim Cole announced Tuesday that the men's basketball team is set to host a first round game of the CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament. Mercer's opening game, against a team to be named later, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13th at the University Center.

Despite already accepting the postseason bid, Mercer is still eligible for consideration for the NCAA and NIT tournament, which will be announced this weekend during Selection Sunday. If offered a spot, the Bears can then exercise an escape clause.

The last time Mercer was in a postseason tournament was during the 1984-1985 season when they lost in the NCAA Regional in Atlanta.

The CIT was established in 2009 and is a single-elimination tournament made up of a 24-team field. All six rounds of the event are played at on-campus sites, determined by seeding.

Coach Hoffman's squad finished their record setting season 22-11, after falling in the semifinal round of the A-Sun Tournament to FGCU.

Tickets are on sale now, $10 a ticket, at mercerbears.com.
