Despite already accepting the postseason bid, Mercer is still eligible for consideration for the NCAA and NIT tournament, which will be announced this weekend during Selection Sunday. If offered a spot, the Bears can then exercise an escape clause.
The last time Mercer was in a postseason tournament was during the 1984-1985 season when they lost in the NCAA Regional in Atlanta.
The CIT was established in 2009 and is a single-elimination tournament made up of a 24-team field. All six rounds of the event are played at on-campus sites, determined by seeding.
Coach Hoffman's squad finished their record setting season 22-11, after falling in the semifinal round of the A-Sun Tournament to FGCU.
