The Lady Hornets' run at a state championship came to an end Saturday. The Lady Hornets fell to Arlington Christian 64-55 in the GISA Class AAA girls championship game held at GCSU in Milledgeville. For the Lady Eagles, it was their second straight Class AAA championship and their fourth overall.

Westfield did lead the game at the half, 27-25, but Arlington raced out to a 10-1 run in the third to get out front for good. The Lady Hornets kept it close but some good free throw shooting down the stretch by Arlington – it was 20-of-29 – preserved the win.

Jeannia Rust helped lead Westfield on offense. She scored 15 points. Sydney Ledford had 10.

Larisa Bishop led Arlington with 22. Kalin Williams had 10.

Westfield finishes its first season under Head Coach Cass Cassell, who by the way is quick to credit former coach Jeff Eubanks for laying a solid foundation, 21-8.
