Houston County residents lost one of our greats this weekend. Charles Benjamin Carter, 79, passed away Saturday from complications stemming from a lung condition.

Carter was surrounded by his friends and family at the time of his death.

Although not technically a life-long resident, Carter lived in Houston County from the age of 5.

His family originally lived on property that is now Robins Air Force Base before moving to allow for expansion.

He spent his life serving the community in different ways. He was a County Commissioner, well known land developer, owner of a cemetary, and insurance agent.

Sonny Watson, Chairman of the Houston Healthcare Board, knew Carter personally and was with Carter when he passed Saturday afternoon. He says Carter was an upstanding member of the community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The visitation will be tomorrow at the family home from 5-7 P.M.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday morning at 11 A.M. at Centerville United Methodist Church.
