The loss made the Panthers 8-6 in Region 2-AAA and gave the Huskies the season sweep. Howard also moved into the third seed spot – ahead of Mary Persons and behind Veterans - while Perry fell to No. 5. Only the top four teams in the 10-team region make it into the state tournament. Both the Panthers and Huskies have four region games left before that time so Perry still has a chance.
Friday it was pretty much no chance for starter Nick Martens as he only made it through three innings. He gave up eight runs - four in the first, three in the second and one in the third – walked two and struck out three. Nathan Murphy relieved him and gave up five hits and the two runs.
Perry’s lone hit came via Seth Moss and in the fifth. He made it to third before being stranded. Murphy did reach on an error in the second but was erased via a 6-3 double play. Nick Martens also walked in the fourth but he was left at first.
