GBI to probe Warner Robin tire controversy

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will look into a decision not to prosecute in a Warner Robins case of illegally dumped tires.
Gary Rothwell, special agent in charge of the Perry office of the GBI, said Wednesday he met with Jim Elliott, Warner Robins city attorney, on the matter.
“We will take a look at the circumstances surrounding the decision not to prosecute” in the incident of the 800 to 1,000 tires found at Foy Evans Drive last month on city-owned property, Rothwell said. “That’s the controversy.”
The pile of tires was discovered last month, but apparently had been there since mid-December.
“We’ll see if the circumstances warrant a criminal investigation,” Rothwell said.
The GBI office is short-handed because of state budget cuts, he said, and though he wants the investigation to be done “as soon as we can,” he could not speculate on when the investigation would be complete.
