Before beating those bushes, first things first, be sure to have an active hunting license. One part of attaining that license is completing a hunter's safety course.
Thomas McElrath from Chuck's Bait & Tackle Gun Pawn Jewelry in Warner Robins said that the licensing system ensures basic hunter's knowledge and also helps to preserve wildlife.
"They use this as a count to see how many deer were actually killed during the season. That's how they set the regulations for every year, by how many deer were actually killed," he said.
One part of attaining a hunter's license is completing a hunter's safety course. The course covers some common sense precautions and some in depth, not-so-common sense safety provisions.
If you're caught hunting without a license, McElrath said that could spell major trouble.
"You can get fined and you could actually lose your license up to three years. They also have an agreement with other states that if you lose your license in one state, you might not be able to get your license in the next state," he said.
You can get a hunting license as young as age 12 to hunt without supervision. Anyone under the age of 12 can only hunt with direct supervision.
