letter was indicted in September by the Houston County grand jury for giving a false address to the Houston County school system in order to send his children to school here.)
To the Houston County Board Of Education;
To District Attorney Kelly Burke; and
To the Citizens of Houston County, Georgia.
I, Terry O’Rear, because of financial changes beyond my control, had to sell my home in Centerville, Houston County, Georgia and had move in with family in Pulaski County, Georgia so I could save money to purchase a new home. I expected the move would only be for two months and I fully intended to purchase another home in Houston County. I did not anticipate that I would not be able to do so soon after selling my first home as I had planned.
My children had attended the Houston County School System for several years by this time and my daughter Stefanie was a senior and really
wanted to graduate with her class in Houston County. I hated for her to lose her senior year with her school and wrongfully informed the Houston County School Board that we were still residents
of Houston County, Georgia when in fact we were not. I even went so far as to falsify a lease
trying to prove my Houston County residency.
I realize now that I did a very foolish thing.
It is no excuse that I did it for the best of reasons.
As soon as I realized the gravity of my actions,
I rented an apartment in Houston County so my children could legally attend the Houston County School System and I paid the fine that the Houston County School Board asked that I pay to them.
I was wrong to criticize the Houston Board of Education for their actions against me and I sincerely apologize for the wrongs that I have done and the trouble that I have caused. I have learned a valuable lesson. Honesty always pays. My family, consisting of five dependents and myself, is now suffering because of my mistakes.
Terry O’Rear
